Project Overview
This project marked one of HACOCA’s initial efforts to combat the growing HIV/AIDS epidemic in the Morogoro Municipal area. Recognizing the need for community-driven interventions, HACOCA self-funded this project with the aim of empowering individuals who could serve as role models and educators within their communities. The project targeted 75 peer educators—37 males and 38 females—providing them with comprehensive training on HIV prevention techniques, communication strategies, and community engagement methods. These peer educators became instrumental in disseminating vital information on HIV prevention, helping to reduce stigma, increase awareness, and ultimately, lower transmission rates.
Project Achievement
The project successfully trained and deployed 75 peer educators, who in turn reached over 1,500 community members with HIV prevention education. This initiative not only helped to reduce the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS but also contributed to a measurable decrease in new HIV infections within the targeted communities. The peer educators reported increased confidence in their roles, leading to sustained engagement and ongoing community health improvements.
