Our History

HACOCA was founded in 2000 by a group of friends in Morogoro region who shared compassionate goals towards supporting people who passed through tides in life. It was purely a volunteering organization established as Civil Based Organization (CBO) and later registered as a non governmental organization.

There were inter-connected reasons that made HACOCA founder members to think of establishing the Organization. These were linked to continued HIV/ AIDS prevalence, Food insecurity and Income Poverty. Others included Ignorance and Gender based violence. HIV/ AIDS and Poverty were observed to affect many communities within Morogoro and national as a whole.

The founder members were so heartened by the increased bedridden of people suffering from HIV/ AIDS. Women and children were much affected as a result of poverty connected to the presence of HIV/ AIDS. Many Households with HIV/AIDS patients suffer from income poverty which results in food insecurity. The effect and infection were higher in women as compared to men, and at the same time was the women’s role to care for the HIV/ AIDS patients as well as work to support families.

It was in 2003, that HACOCA founder members decided to embark on the organization that focused on promoting health and economy in marginalized households of Morogoro communities by combating the four (4) enemies e.g. Poverty, ignorance, diseases, and gender-based violence.
